Voice Coaching & Healthy Voice Workshops
Newspaper article link - A Working Life: The Voice Coach
I
work with both sung and spoken voice and many people seem to know what
to expect from me in terms of my work with singers. I am often
understandably asked for more information about what my work with the
spoken voice involves.
Well,
firstly that depends on what it is you wish to work on, for example a
teacher wishing to learn to use their voice more effectively would spend
time with me working towards speaking for long periods of time
uninterrupted to various sizes of group in differing spaces and they
will learn how to use their voices to inform, inspire and motivate. An
actor wishing to perfect an audition piece would be doing similar work
but much more extensively in order to convey the emotional content in
the way that meets the demands of the role being played, the frequency
of performances and any other physical demands owing to the role of the
character played.
Patsy
Rodenburg is one of the country's best voice coaches, if not further
afield. Her books and recorded material played a great part in my
training over the last 20 years, so if you see any of her material
anywhere do give it a go! Here is a great article about
Patsy's life as a voice coach which simply gives a great insight into the life of a voice coach!!!
Voice Coaching and Healthy Voice Workshops are Perfect for:
1) Anyone who uses his or her voice on a daily basis
For example: Actors, Public Speakers/Toastmasters, Teachers, Lecturers, Clergy, Call Centre Staff, Bank Tellers, Solicitors,
Sports Coaches/Gym Instructors
2) Anyone wishing to communicate more effectively in daily life or for special events
For example: those wishing to speak well for presentations or give speeches for special events such as weddings
Many people fit into these categories. I have also come across hairdressers who have required coaching with their voices. Their jobs entail speaking to their clients above loud hairdryers and other background noise. Couple this with the fast moving and dry environment they are working in and voice problems can occur*. However, people can make simple life changes** in order to help them care for their voice and prevent problems.
My role as a voice coach is to teach people how to use and care for their voice in a healthy, safe way in order to improve its effectiveness. For some, voice coaching will just be about learning to speak well in order to get through their working day without getting a sore throat at the end of it*. For others, voice coaching will also incorporate the performance aspects of speech/presentation. My services cater for the needs of each individual or group that I work with.
